Understanding Cost of Medical Care

SCL Health understands medical costs can be very confusing. Whether you have health insurance and are trying to understand your out-of-pocket costs or if you pay directly for your medical care and do not have insurance, we can help you get the information you need.

If you have health insurance:

Contact your health insurance provider directly with questions about your deductibles, coinsurance, benefit limits, or what your insurance will cover for specific services.

If you do not have health insurance, and pay for your medical bills directly:

For a confidential price estimate for a medical service or procedure at a local SCL Health Care site, please call our Financial Counseling Department at (303) 812-2655 or toll free at (855) 815-9990. Please have the following information available when contacting the Financial Counseling Department (the more information you provide, the more accurate your estimate will be):

  • Description of service needed – as much information as possible about the procedure as described by your doctor.
  • The procedure code or CPT code for the service – available from your doctor.
  • Your doctor’s name – who is the physician ordering your service? If you are having surgery, who is the surgeon?

The cost estimate of your procedure will be based on the information you provide. Please keep in mind, that this is only an estimate, many factors can affect the final actual cost. For example, the provider may find it necessary to perform more, fewer or different procedures at the time of service.

There may also be radiology, laboratory, pathology, and other services that result in additional charges from providers other than SCL Health and our hospitals.
